Runner Runner recently called upon Primordial Media to produce CD merchandise for The Vans Warped Tour that they recently performed at.  Due to the multitude of color in the disc artwork, we selected our offset printing solution for full color, high resolution CD printing.  We also provided a printed cardboard sleeve packaging option and made sure that the colors in the sleeve artwork matched the disc artwork as closely as possible.  As you can see, the final product came out looking really “cool”, the band loved the product, and Runner Runner fans had some great new music to buy after the show!

Christina Leon is a personal trainer and fitness instructor with 29 years of experience in training, exercise, and nutrition.  She contacted Primordial Media to discuss the release of her first home training DVD and to capitalize on her unique opportunity to bring her cutting edge workout instruction to living rooms all across America.  The 3-disc DVD set is called AthleKinetix and Primordial Media worked directly with the producer of the project to formulate the most viable replication, printing, and packaging solution available.  We selected a triple disc DVD box (with a flip tray) to maximize retail display visibility while still allowing for efficient distribution and lower shipping cost.

Pictured above are images of a recent project we completed for New World Medical.  The brochure and Flex DVD combo was designed, printed, and packaged to market the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve – one of the most important medical breakthroughs ever made in the area of glaucoma surgery.  Primordial Media and Dmedia worked together to design a 20 page brochure to describe the surgical tools our client creates.  The Flex DVD includes various training modules as well as live surgeries describing the surgical applications and processes that doctors in the ophthalmology field would find helpful and informative.  We chose the Flex DVD instead of a standard DVD in order to significantly decrease the cost of postage as well as to eliminate broken discs in transit.

Vinyl CD Printing – Throwback Style.

Pictured above is a project we recently completed for Mayfair High School’s 2009 yearbook. It looks just like a classic vinyl record (even the texture) but plays and functions like a CD or DVD!  The disc above is actually a DVD that describes the 50 year history of Mayfair High’s existence.  It was placed into the yearbook’s cover using an adhesive back plastic sleeve.

Due to the huge influence of vinyl in the hip hop and DJ culture, this printing option is also a popular product within this genre’s community.  Vinyl CD/DVD printing is a great way to give your next CD project the look and feel of a vintage vinyl record!  Give us a call to discuss and to request the correct design template.

Enhanced CD for Ubiquity Records.

ubiquitycd

Ubiquity Records is considered to be one of the most successful independent record labels in the world.  The music the label releases (Breakstra, Greyboy, Nobody, Nino Moschella, Ohmega Watts, Shawn Lee, Sa-Ra, etc.) is complemented by an extremely popular clothing brand that is available in “urban” clothing outlets online and in stores all over the world.  In order to “marry” their record releases with the Ubiquity clothing line, a 3″ Mini CD is attached to the tag of every T-Shirt that is sold online and in stores.  This 3″ Mini CD contains a sampling of 5 or 6 upcoming audio samplings (for upcoming releases) along with interactive content (video, web links, etc.) that launches when placed into a computer’s disc drive.

Primordial Media & Dmedia assisted in designing the Enhanced CD interface in order to drive more traffic directly to the Ubiquity Records website and more specifically – to the online store.  In my opinion, this is a technology that should be incorporated into any CD release or promo considering the amount of music and other product that is consumed online.  The “enhanced” portion of the disc generally contains video, images, links to the web, special offers, etc. and can be authored as a total multimedia experience for a very affordable price considering the overall per unit cost of each article of clothing sold.

Let us know if you have any questions about turning your next CD into an Enhanced CD.  It is the smart thing to do!

Flex DVD Q&A

May 6th, 2009 | Posted in Blog, FlexDVD | Comments Off

The Flex DVD is an amazing new product on the market today with some very intriguing benefits and features.  Here is a quick list of common questions about the product along with answers from the experts here at Primordial Media.

Q – Does the Flex DVD play and function just like a standard DVD?

A – The quick answer is yes.  However, there are certain items that must be discussed.  The Flex DVD will function and play normally on any tray loading device (set top DVD players included) just like a standard DVD-5. However, some slot loading devices (like a PS3 or Macbook) will have trouble ejecting the disc.  That being said, it is in the best interest of the consumer and the distributor to clearly educate the end user via the inclusion of some sort of instruction to avoid inserting the Flex DVD into this type of drive.

Q – Is the Flex DVD really “unbreakable”

A – No.  Without doubt, the Flex DVD is tremendously more resilient to breakage when compared to a standard CD or DVD – there is absolutely no argument there.  Can the disc bend and flex without breaking? Yes, it can.  Can the disc withstand a significant amount of abuse compared to a standard DVD? Yes, it can.  But let’s not forget that the disc is made of plastic, and while its resilience to breakage is going to yield much more attractive results that a standard disc, you just can’t guarantee 100% of your discs placed in a mass mailing will arrive safely 100% of the time.  One perfect example is a project recently completed as a cover mount for a magazine. 60,000 units went into circulation, and 2 phone calls came in asking for a new disc – AMAZING results and exponentially better statistics than what can be achieved with a standard DVD-5.

Q – Is the Flex DVD really an “eco-friendly” DVD?

A – YES.  Now this is an easy one!  Flex DVD is the ONLY environmentally friendly DVD alternative.  We have reduced the amount of polycarbonate (plastic) used in the molding process by 50% (from about 16 grams to 8 grams). We have also completely eliminated the bonder from the process completely which not only eliminates the use of a toxic chemical but also allows the disc to be 100% recycle-able.  Due to the all around efficiency in replicating this product, we are also drastically reducing the amount of CO2 emissions that our facility is responsible for – not to mention the CO2 conserved in transporting the product via truck , plane, or ship.
